Dear colleagues! The global aim of strategy of every social and economic system is to improve the natural resource use effi ciency for the solving of society problems. The currently implementing strategy of the economic progress in Russia assumes intensive development of natural resources of the territory. In addition, the underdevelopment of recent mechanisms of nature management leads to genesis of signifi cant collisions in the counteraction between human and nature. Effective solution of the ecological problems is possible only within framework of the whole complex of national economy subject to sustainable development of particular regions. Variety of the elements of Russian regions resource potential conditions the diversity of natural resource use alternatives, hence, it implies the diversity of development paths of the particular territory. The opportunities of acquisition of natural resource rent don`t realize by itself. The well-established strategy of rational nature management is necessary. The main task of this strategy is resource use for the public interest, namely the improvement of social welfare of the territory. Many investigations dedicated to the problems of effective use of natural resources have been carried out within the last ten years. Nevertheless, the results of theoretical evidences fi nd no application for the activity of the national economy subjects towards intensive industrial development of territories. Due to that it is necessary to hold a mutual public discussion of the topics connected with the effective use of natural resources, sustainable development and economic growth, and the elaboration of the effective strategy for economic development considering ecological risks. The establishment of the tight interrelation between scientifi c community, business and authority will be a consequence of this discussion. The present issue of series “Humanitites and Social Sciences” of the Siberian Federal University Journal includes the articles prepared by results of the most notable studies which were discussed at the conference “Resource Economics, Environmental Economics and Climate Change” held in Krasnoyarsk, the centre of Siberia, by the initiative of Siberian Federal University in summer 2009. We hope the materials of this issue will support the debate in fi elds of knowledge connected with the main topics of conference and will stimulate further inquires about establishing the harmony between economic growth and ecological background of our planet.
